The 2010 line up of Audi’s A4 adds a new innovation- the S4 model with a sedan body type. A4 is offered in two body types- sedan and Avant wagon. Both body types are incorporated with Audi’s Quattro all wheel drive also known as four- wheel drive. Front wheel drive can also be opted for the sedans. The Quattro all wheel drive of the V6 3.2 model has been eliminated from the 2010 line up. The 2.0 T sedan and wagon body type has a horsepower of 211 with a turbocharged 2 litre V4 engine. The 2.0 T model with front wheel drive mode is equipped with the CVT or Continuously Variable Transmission. CVT is similar to the function of the automatic transmission. The Quattro all wheel drive of the 2.0 T model can be opted for a six- speed manual or automatic transmission. The latest S4 model is equipped with the all wheel drive system that contains a horsepower of 333 with a 3 litre six cylinder engine. The S4 is available in a dual clutch transmission with a speed of seven or a manual transmission with a speed of six. Some of S4’s features include wheels 18 inches in rim and exclusive overall car trim.

Protection gears include the antilock brake system, traction control, stability control, Brake assist, and airbags in the front, side, and curtain portion. Additional car equipment compromises of the navigation system, Drive Select system which tolerate changes in controlling the settings of the vehicle’s suspension and steering, keyless entry, wireless mobile phone linkage, rear view camera, and blind sport alert system.

Ride quality in A4 models is smooth even with uneven surfaces but the S4 model experiences a rigid ride due to its tires and sports suspension. Steering, handling, and braking function of the A4 models are balanced.

The 2.0 T sedans with all wheel drive mode runs an average mpg of 22.5 to 25.8. The S4 model runs an average mpg of 17.7. A premium type of fuel is used for car to function.

The athletic ambience of the S4 model is impressive along with sophisticated design and high quality materials. Interior of A4 models has a refined look. The seats are restful with enough room for the legs and head of the passengers. The cargo area of the sedan models are expanded and elongated.

The S4 package of the A4 line up is definitely a suggested vehicle with economical fuel consumption. Other models of the A4 are also appropriate when it comes to value.

Slight improvements have been made to Audi’s 2010 line up including an additional diesel engine. A4 is a four- door compact vehicle which is offered in two option packages- 2.0 T and 2.0 TDI. The 2.0 T model has a horsepower of 200 with a turbocharged 2 litre V4 engine. It can be selected for a six- speed manual transmission or six- speed dual clutch transmission that has similar automatic functions. The 2.0 TDI model has a horsepower of 140 with a turbo diesel V4 engine. Transmission incorporated with the engine is a six- speed dual clutch transmission. The previous trim level 3.2 S has been eliminated from the 2010 line up. All models are equipped with the front wheel drive system. The Quattro all wheel drive is only offered for the automatic 2.0 T model.

The standard safety equipment for all models include the antilock brake system, stability control, traction control, dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain side airbags, Brake assist, and tire pressure monitor. Other additional car accessories consist of leather upholstery, navigation system, and sport front seats.

Turbo lag is experienced with the 2.0 T model at low speed. The acceleration of the manual transmission is excellent with effortless shifting. The sports suspension allows a rigid ride quality to models integrated with it. All models have an easy ride flow when driven in the highway. The steering of the A4 works perfectly plus the brakes are stable enough to handle any stop. Minimal wind sound is heard inside the vehicle. Noise from the tires is also noticed but tolerable.

The automated manual 2.0 T model runs an average mpg of 23.6. The 2.0 TDI model runs an average mpg of 36.2. Fuel mileage results are very impressive.

The interior ambience of the A4 is furnished with luxury. Passengers will really be satisfied with comfort during a trip. There is adequate space for the head and legs of the passengers. Comfortable seats will also allow a relaxing travel in long distances. The sports seats are firm but support is guaranteed with large bolsters. The cargo area is spacious especially if the rear seat is folded. The Multi Media Interface System of the A5 has the same problems encountered with other Audi models. Operating different functions of the navigation system, climate control, and audio is complicated and time consuming.

A4 is a selling vehicle in the market. With better fuel economy, consumers are able to save so much plus it has a reasonable purchase price of $27,270.

Cars are no longer as it used to be. Modern compact cars are now competing with bigger cars in terms of looks, general features as well as safety features. Most of the compacts have four seats and spaces for the luggage. The challenge in this group of cars is the completion.

The compact cars are present in all shapes, the sedans, the coupe and the hatchbacks. They are most 4 cylinders and front wheel drive. The hatchbacks and the wagons have both 2 and 4 doors. Some high performance cars in this compact group are turbocharged as others are hybrid and others natural gas while others have options of diesel.

New for 2010

This group did not see new models entering the compact cars in 2010. The existing models have new styles and features.

The hybrid Honda Insight is a hatchback with 4 doors that joined the group to give competition to Toyota’s Prius.

Kia Forte replaced their Spectra sedan with a powerful 2 door Forte Koup

Mitsubishi Lancer added a hatchback model with 4 doors known as the Sportback

Volkswagen Golf became the second in the compact cars to come up with a diesel powered engine.

As far as styling is concerned, the Mazda 3 and Nissan Sentra got some styling and power in 2010

The Toyota Corolla and the Matrix saw improved safety features as Nissan Versa got both safety and Styling additions. The price of the Hyundai Elantra was lowered.

The Chevrolet Cobalt as well as the HHR Panel entered new models but lost the high performance packages along with the Dodge Caliber but the interior was redesigned.

The GM owing to their bankruptcy are phasing out most of their brands

Available Features

The features now available in the compact cars were available in five years ago for the bigger and more expensive cars. The upholstery, the heater for the front seats together with navigation systems and other features are available for not more than $20,000. In some models these features are optional.

The diesel engines have been popular for a very long time. The buyers of these vehicles careless for the noise they make but care for the power the cars have and the economy of fuel not to forget the durability. The modern technology has improved the diesel engines to the same performance status with regular gasoline engines placing them in mid-size and large SUVs class.

To come along in 2010 are compact pickups powered by diesel and rear driven as well as 4 Wheel drive from Mahindra India.

The year 2010 has seen an increase demand compared with 2009 with the prices of the lowest car being $21,990 for a Golf TDI. Audi A3 TDI is a new player here with a car like the Golf. The Diesel SUVs tend to cost more with the least expensive Volkswagen Toureg 2 TDI going for $43,960. In case it the space rather than the wheel drive that you are looking for in the SUV, a Volkswagen Jetta TDI, Sports Wagen going for $23,870 could be a compromise that can be made.

Why Choose a Diesel?

The diesel engines have quite a number of advantages. In regards to fuel economy, the diesels have between 25% and 35% mileage advantage over the gasoline engines. They also have a range when it comes to fill-ups and when it comes to towing a trailer nothing does it like a diesel engine.

The undoing of the diesel engine high purchase value is said to be a hindrance. The maintenance costs tend to be higher. These are made up by savings on fuel and the resale value.

The other concern is the diesel prices tend to vary from gasoline prices. The reason is in fact that the production of both gasoline and diesel is done simultaneously. During economic hard-times demand and prices of gasoline drop whereas those of diesel remain consistent. As gasoline prices drop those of diesel tend to go up possibly to cover for the dropping in the gasoline price.

What’s Out There?

The Audi have an A3 version of premium compact hatchback as well as a Q7 SUV. The Q7 is a Volkswagen Toureg 2 and A3 is a Volkswagen Golf.

The BMW have introduced a 3-series sedan and goes on with the premium mid-size X5.

The Mercedes Benz have a diesel powered premium large SUV and its E-Class sedan in the premium mid-size.

The Volkswagen remains with Toureg 2TDI which is a mid-size SUV and Jetta TDI a compact available both in sedan and wagon and an added Golf compact hatchback.

Ventilation, a free flow of fresh air, is essential in a home, not only for humans to breathe, but also to prevent condensation occurring. There are three main areas of a home that need ventilation: the main living space, the spaces under suspended timber floors, and the roof space. You may also need to ventilate chimneys that have been sealed.

Ventilation for living
In older homes, there are likely to be so many gaps around doors and windows and through fireplaces that any additional ventilation will be unnecessary, although you may need to open a few windows from time to time. In modern homes, the combination of draughtproofed windows and doors and sealed or non-existent fireplaces means that some kind of additional ventilation is necessary. This may take the form of forced ventilation, through an extractor fan in a bathroom or kitchen, or background ventilation, for which the main item is the trickle ventilator.

A trickle ventilator allows a slow, but constant, stream of fresh air into a room and is simply fitted into a window frame. Holes are drilled through the frame and the ventilator fitted over them, thus allowing air to flow into and out of the room. A grille prevents insects from getting in, and there is usually some kind of control to vary the rate of flow.

Underfloor ventilation
A suspended timber floor consists of floorboards or sheets of flooring-grade chipboard (particle board) supported on joists. To keep the joists and the flooring dry, and so avoid rot and woodworm attack, some kind of underfloor ventilation is essential. This takes the form of airbricks fitted in the outer walls.

The first thing to check is that all the existing airbricks are free of debris and have not been blocked up in the mistaken belief that this will save money on heating.

Next, check that there are enough airbricks – there should be one airbrick for every 2m (6ft) of wall length. Inserting a new airbrick is not difficult, as most match the size of standard bricks.

Decide where you want to put it, drill out the mortar around the existing brick and remove it. With a cavity wall, the most common, you will have to continue the hole through the inner wall and fit a terracotta liner to maintain the airflow. Use the corners of the hole in the outer wall to line up and drill four holes in the inner wall, then chip out the hole with a bolster (stonecutter’s) chisel and club (spalling) hammer, working from the inside. You will need to lift floorboards to do this.

Fit the airbrick from the outside, applying mortar to the bottom of the hole and the top of the brick, pushing mortar in the sides. Point the mortar joints to the same profile as the surrounding joints. Mortar the liner in place from inside the house.

Ventilating roof spaces
If your house has a gable end wall, the roof space can be ventilated by fitting airbricks in the gable. If the house is semi-detached, ask your neighbour to do the same, and fit another airbrick in the party wall to allow the air to circulate freely.

The alternative is to fit ventilators in the timber soffits – the horizontal boards that overhang the eaves. All that is needed to fit these is to cut a hole in the timber using a padsaw or a jigsaw (saber saw), then push the ventilator in place, securing it with screws if necessary. There must be a clear space above each ventilator for air to flow into the roof, so make sure that any insulation material does not extend to the eaves. A badly ventilated roof space can lead to condensation and possible rot.

Blocked fireplaces
If a fireplace has been bricked or boarded up, the result could be condensation within the old chimney, leading to staining of the chimney breast (fireplace projection) especially if there is no airbrick.

Fit a metal ventilator to the bricks or panel where the fireplace used to be, after making a hole just smaller than the ventilator area. Some types are made to be screwed in place; others, for use with bricks, are held by plaster. If the chimney pot itself has also been removed and the chimney capped off, make sure that airbricks have been fitted into the chimney at the top.

A hinged window seat is supported on all four sides -by two or three hinges (or a full-length piano hinge), fitted at the back to a batten secured to the back wall, by two battens secured to the side walls and by a simple ladder timber frame at the front. You will need 50 x 50mm (2 x 2in) timber for the frame and the battens, and 18mm MDF or plywood for the seat or lid and the front panel.

To make the frame, first cut a length of timber to form the base, making it fit snugly between the skirting boards on the opposing sides of the window. Position it just behind the skirting corners, so that the front of the window seat lies flush with the adjacent walls. Cut the two side members of the frame to the required height and mark these R and L – they may need to be different lengths to get the top member level, so check with a spirit level. They may also need to be cut away to fit around the skirting board. Cut the top frame member to length, then cut two more verticals to fit exactly between the top and bottom pieces, spaced equally along the front. When you are happy with the frame (it may take a bit of shaping with a rasp and a chisel), join it together with screws.

With the front frame in place (but not yet secured), use a spirit level to mark the position of the back batten on the wall. The lid fits in front of the back batten and overlaps the front frame, hence the back batten sits higher than the front. Use a piece of the lid material to allow for the thickness of the lid. Cut the batten to length, then drill and countersink holes for 90mm No 12 brass securing screws. Mark the screw positions on the wall, drill holes and fit wallplugs, then screw the batten in place. Using the lid, mark on the back batten where the underneath of the lid will be and mark on the side wall where the battens should be. Take your time to cut these square and exactly to length (it doesn’t matter if they are a bit short, but the front edge must butt neatly against the rear of the front frame). Secure these battens to the side walls.

Screw the front frame to the ends of the side battens at the top and to the floor at the bottom, using 75mm (3in) screws. Screw additional battens for added strength if required.

Cut a panel for the front from MDF or plywood sheet and shape it to fit around the skirting boards at the lower edges. It can be left just a fraction short of the floor, but the top edge must line up with the top of the frame. Screw the panel to the frame with 40mm No 8 screws at 150mm (6in) intervals.

Cut the lid to size, round off the front edge using a router. Chisel out the recesses in the lid to take the hinges and fit a hinge-supporting batten made from 40mm square timber along the back edge. Take your time over this and use a sharp chisel, as any errors will show.

Chisel out the recesses in the back batten for the other half of the hinges. Secure the lid to the back batten using three 75mm (3in) brass or chrome hinges.

A plywood seat can be varnished and brass screws will enhance its appearance. An MDF seat is best painted, and you may want to fill in the visible screw heads.

When you are selling your own home FSBO, you’re going to need not only marketing and design skills, but also some skills in psychology. By combining all of these skills you will be able to start reading buyers so that you know which ones are really serious, which ones need a little extra convincing and which ones are simply out to look at home without really wanting to buy them.

There are three main types of home buyers. The serious customer who has already sold their own home or needs to find a new property quickly. These people may be moving into the area and they are starting to feel a little stressed about finding the perfect home. These are usually the easiest home buyers to deal with since they have a good idea of what they want and they need to make a decision quickly.

The second type of home buyer is semi-serious and is considering upgrading their home or maybe buying a home for the first time. They’re looking, but they may not exactly be buying that day. You’ll need to find a way to make them create an emotional connection with your home if you want to take them to the next level.

The third type of home buyer is out for a lark and their “someday” home purchase is in the future. They enjoy looking at homes, but they really are not in a position to buy one yet. These buyers can be a little frustrating since they aren’t really buyers, but they are good practice in how to deal with future leads.

Now that we’ve gone over the three types of buyers, here are some hints on how to determine which one you are dealing with. The first type may come right out and tell you that they need to find a home quickly. They are by far the easiest to read. They will ask direct questions such as whether or not the appliances will stay, how low you’re willing to go on the price and if there are any schools in the area.

The second type is a little bit harder to read. They will usually focus on one room of a house and they may ask questions that are a little more vague. By finding out a little more about them, you can start presenting rooms in your home that will create that emotional hook. For example, you can find out if they enjoy cooking. If they do, show them all that your kitchen can do.

The third type will wander through your home and most likely will not ask many questions. They are the typical “tire kicker” and you can usually tell right off the bat that they are just looking. It’s best to leave them to their dreams while you focus on the other two types of buyers. There’s nothing wrong with just looking, but when you need to sell your FSBO home, you’ve got to spend your time focusing on the right buyers.

Investing іn thе stock market with а long-term view сertainlу hаs а lot оf benefits. Most оf thе legends іn stock market investing lіke Warren Buffet recommend long-term investing. However, уou need tо learn hоw to identify the long-term stock market trend befоre уоu invest іn а раrtіculаr stock. There arе ѕeverаl tools thаt cаn hеlр yоu іn thіѕ endeavor. One оf the moѕt powerful tools сould be trend following.

Trend following

Stocks ѕeem tо hаvе a certаіn inertia оf thеіr оwn whісh tends to kееp thеm іn thеir current cоurse unleѕs ѕomеthing drastic hapрenѕ to change their course. This momentum сan hеlp уоu predict а stock’s future movement, based оn its past performance. This iѕ basically thе premise оf trend fоllоwing іn а nutshell; althоugh therе iѕ muсh mоre tо it.

A trend line iѕ oftеn used іn trend fоllowing tо plot thе сoursе оf а рartіcular stock іn order tо predict іtѕ future movement. If уоu сan spot а trend, then уоu wоuld hаve a muсh bеtter advantage оvеr othеr investors trading in the sаmе stock.

You сan identify а trend bу marking а series оf thrее points on а graph. When уou саn locate thrее consecutive higher highs and higher lows, іt wоuld іndіcatе аn up-trend. Likewise, whеn уоu find thrее consecutive lower highs аnd lower lows, іt wоuld indісаtе a dоwn trend. A sideways trend cаn be spotted whеn thе upper аnd lower points travel аlоng parallel lines, mоre оr lesѕ horizontally.

The longer a stock hаs beеn fоllowing а раrtіculаr trend, thе stronger wоuld bе thе tendency fоr thаt stock tо maintain itѕ current trend in thе future. This fact makes trend fоllоwing mоre accurate fоr long-term investments. Because, whеn yоu focus on the long-term, уоu arе analyzing data ovеr а long period оf time. You cаn therеforе sее а wider picture thаt presents а wider perspective оf а stock thаn a short-term investment. You wоuld then bе іn а bеtter position tо spot long-term trends mоre precisely аnd uѕe thеm tо уоur advantage іn predicting future trends for yоur stock.

Trend fоllowіng cаn help уоu base уоur decisions оn accurate data rаther thаn оn emotional impulses thаt саn force уоu іnto making spur-of-the-moment decisions thаt саn takе уou in thе wrong direction. Of course, іt takes discipline, perseverance аnd courage tо stand уоur ground no matter hоw muсh thе market fluctuates in the short-term. But оncе уоu learn hоw tо identify thе long-term stock market trend, yоu wіll bе ablе to profit frоm investing for thе long-term.

Window security: people talk about it as if it’s something that has only been required since the Seventies – I do mean the 1970s. It seems that prior to that decade, in the Swinging Sixties, we didn’t worry about it because we were all too busy being sexually liberated. Or was it that we didn’t have much to steal? Strangely enough, and unfortunately, my memories of the Sixties are quite different. Liberation for me came about with David Bowie and Al Green in the early Seventies (musically, I mean). I’m sorry, I digress. ‘Window security’: the Victorians were well aware of the vulnerability of windows, so they designed various catches and window locks, but the most successful anti-burglary devices were the very aesthetically pleasing window shutters of the period. Again, the Victorians created an impressive design, for the shutters were multi-purpose. When closed, the window became almost impregnable and provided privacy and warmth, whilst allowing a certain amount of natural light through the top section of the window above the shutters. They are just as effective today. When the occupants of the house are at home and the shutters are open, they form a complimentary surround to the window, creating a pleasant focal point in the room. If you’re not lucky enough to have shutters in your home, you may have to resort to using modern methods, such as purpose made window locks.

I don’t approve of bars outside the window to provide security – they are dangerous barriers in the event of a fire, and they look ugly. If you feel you need a steel barrier of some sort, try the folding concertina type that are fixed internally, are far less obtrusive, but do the job.

Window security is extremely important, as this is one of the most vulnerable areas of your home, so invest in good quality locks and ensure they are well fitted.

Changing An Existing Casement Fastener For A Lockable Handle
The first thing to do is to remove the existing handle and catch. Use your screwdriver for this and take care not to slip and damage the wood. You may have to fill one or two of the holes with filler as the new handle and catch will probably not match the existing fixing holes.

Offer up the new catch to the fixed part of the window in the same location as the existing one. Using the bradawl, press into the wood, twisting as you go through the holes in the catch. This will make small pilot holes for the fixing screws. Now screw the catch firmly to the window frame.

To fix the lockable handle to the opening casement side, mark your holes and place the handle over the catch. Close the window, wedging it with paper, and mark the holes. Now use the bradawl to make the pilot holes as before and finally screw the handle to the casement window.

Fixing A Swing Lock
This type of lock is also an ideal replacement for a standard fastener. It’s a neat, unobtrusive little lock, which is usually supplied in a white powder coated finish. The lock is fitted in exactly the same way as the lockable handle fastener; screw the plate to the window frame; use a bradawl to make fixing holes for the catch on the window; check alignment and screw the catch onto the window. Keep the lock functioning perfectly by lubricating occasionally with light oil. Sounds a bit like my routine ‘the occasional lubrication’, to function perfectly.

Other Locks
There are a variety of locks available for every type and style of window – for example, dual screws for sash windows, which are inexpensive but effective. My preference is to fit sash stops, which allow the window to be left slightly open for ventilation, but remain secure. Safety wise, they score well by preventing children from opening the windows. A cockspur handle lock can be easily fitted to a wooden casement window, via a lockable extending bolt, which traps the handle. Metal casement windows, however, may be a little more difficult to attach locks to, as they may require the drilled holes to be threaded, using a die normally supplied with the locking kit. Large casements and pivot windows may require the use of rack bolts or casement locks. Alternatively fit a ‘stay arm lock’, which is fixed below the stay, with a lockable bolt passed through one of the stay arm holes. If this doesn’t suit, change the stay arm for a purpose-made lockable type.

Main living areas are busy places and often serve more than one purpose, acting as a play space, dining room and study, as well as somewhere to relax. So before the lids come off the paint pots it’s important to consider your needs carefully.

Maximizing Options
Obviously, seating will be your first priority. The chances are that this will relate to where the television is, but even in an average-sized room there will probably be two or three ways in which furniture can be organized. Arranging furniture to create discreet zones for different activities will bring a sense of order and make a room look more spacious. Consider likely traffic routes – from door to sofa, from sofa to audio equipment – and aim for a layout that allows people to move around with ease.

Windows
A sitting or dining room is the best place to experiment with a grand scheme, especially if it has large windows. Window dressings can be costly, but don’t skimp on fabric or it could spoil the end result – far better to be generous with a cheaper fabric than mean with an expensive one. Lace panels, sheer voiles or a simple roller blind can be used to provide privacy without having to disturb carefully arranged or tied-back drapes. For a more contemporary feel, keep curtains simple – plain fabrics hung from poles with tab, ring or clip headings look fashionably neat and can be closed easily. Alternatively, forgo curtains altogether and opt for a blind – roman blinds look particularly at home in a sitting room or dining room.

Flooring
When choosing a floor covering for a living area, consider comfort and how easy it will be to keep clean, as well as the style. Easy-care alternatives that can be just as comfortable underfoot, though not quite as cosy, include wood, wood-look laminates, cork and linoleum, all of which adapt well to both traditional and modern settings and look wonderful with rugs. Old floorboards may also be worth renovating.

If warmth and comfort underfoot are your priority, carpet is hard to beat – but make sure it is hardwearing and a colour that masks dirt. For durability, the best choice is an 80:20 wool/synthetic blend, while a 50:50 mix is a good compromise between quality and cost. In a dining room, a stain-resistant synthetic pile will shrug off spills.

Lighting
Living rooms need a variety of lighting: gentle ambient light for overall comfort, pools of concentrated task lighting and accent lighting to give depth and character. Overhead light is often too harsh for sitting rooms and casts gloomy shadows. Wall lights, especially uplighters, produce a comfortable background light that creates subtle contours on walls and ceilings; in contemporary rooms, spotlights can be used. Recessed downlighters will illuminate the whole room with pinpoints of light or form accent lights to highlight foliage, a picture or a sculpture. Table and floor-standing lamps boost light levels and provide lighting for reading, while lights secreted in a glass cabinet or behind a pelmet create atmosphere. In eating areas, the focal point should always be the table. Sparkling glass fittings look fabulous over a formal dining table, but a rise-and-fall fitting will provide an intimate, glare-free pool of light.
